Surveys, Reports & Consultations

We are specialists in offering a comprehensive arboricultural service tailored to commercial and domestic clients, from property management to stately homes and beyond. Our surveys are adaptable to a multitude of specific needs, whether assessing tree health, safety, risk managementdevelopment or potential property risks like subsidence.

If you need something that isn’t listed below, then contact us and we will be able to help you.

Arboricultural Consultations

A consultation is an informal onsite meeting with one of our senior arborists to give you advice and an assessment on the state of your tree stock and recommendations for any remedial works, planting, damage, access issues or other concerns there may be.

The findings will be given verbally and is a great starting point when looking at your tree, hedges and other vegetation on your site. In most cases there may not be any further work that is required, making this a very cost effective first step. All advice given is covered by insurance.

Prices start from £75 + VAT per hour, depending on size and complexity of site, the number of trees and the location.

Tree Condition Reports, Risk Assessments, Management and Planting Plans

These are more comprehensive surveys, ranging from large tree stock assessments to detailed surveys of individual trees, all tailored to meet your specific needs. The data gathered during these surveys displays tree condition in regards health and safety and informs strategic tree management plans for the future, including recommendations for new planting schemes if required.

These surveys are very detailed and a formal digital report is given to you. This can help you meet your obligations under a Duty of Care to your neighbours and any visitors to your property. Each of our senior arborists bring over 20 years of industry experience and a wide range of specialist tools into play. All our surveys and report are covered by insurance.

Prices start from £250 + VAT, depending on site size, tools required, number of trees, and location.

We can undertake 4 main types of surveys on your property and site depending on what your intended aims are:

  • Selective Survey: This is usually your basic and most cost effective tree survey where you just want to see if there is any vegetation management required and would like to cover your basic duty of care to people entering or neighbouring your site or property. Every tree on site or tree that could affect the site is surveyed (where possible) using ground Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) techniques. There will then be a digital report produced which will include information on any recommended works or further advanced investigation that is required. This report only displays the trees that actually require work to be carried out.

  • Comprehensive Survey: This is very similar to the survey above but all trees onsite are recorded in the report (external is still only recorded if works are required). This report is more comprehensive and gives a client more information such as tree dimensions, ages and species of everything onsite which allows a complete tree inventory and current status.

  • Tree Risk Assessment Survey: This can be added to either survey above or done independently. We use a system called Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) for this. It provides a quantified risk rating regarding potential harm to people and property, which is helpful for more accurate works prioritisation and increased levels of due diligence for the duty of care holder for the site. This type of survey can be very useful for very large sites where a full condition survey is not practicable or where information on tree management is not required, just tree risk, or for high value sites where a more comprehensive report is prudent.

  • Advanced Tree Survey: This type of survey can be requested from a site consultation, local authority, another consultants report or as a recommendation from our report. These types of surveys are usually only used where more accurate data is required on a particular tree or defect within the tree. For example this can be through an aerial inspection, advanced decay detection equipment usage or a details root inspection.

BS 5837 Tree Reports

When trees are near or on a proposed development site, we need to gather information according to BS5837:2012 guidelines for design, demolition, and construction to comply with the planning application. The main goal of the survey is to understand how the development might affect important trees in the area, if remedial works are required and how the construction or demolition is to be undertaken.

  • The first step in the process is to undertake a Tree Constraints Plan (TCP) through an onsite survey to help the architects or builders know if their new development is going to impact any vegetation on site.

Pricing starts from £350 + VAT, depending on site size, number of trees, and location.

  • If any vegetation is to be effected, then there may be a request from the planning authority for an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA). This evaluates how planned development might affect existing trees, it identifies trees to be removed or retained and pinpoints potential conflicts with the development.

  • There will then be an Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) outlines the methodology to protect trees during construction. Typically paired with a Tree Protection Plan (TPP), the AMS equips contractors with all the necessary details to safeguard trees throughout the construction process.

Pricing starts from £350 + VAT, depending on site size, complexity of development, number of site visits and location.

Arboricultural Clerk of Works (ACoW)

By employing one of our senior arborists as an arboricultural clerk of works (ACoW) we provide work and site supervision service advising how construction work can be completed on sites with trees to meet your requirements under legislation, planning authority stipulations or legal tree protection statuses. Our arboriculturist can regularly visit the site to oversee tree protection measures and ensure compliance with any method statements of work.

Prices start at £200 + VAT for the first hour and £50 + VAT per hour after, depending on size and complexity of site, the number of trees and the location.
